AST Authors are seeking a Technical Author to join our small, friendly team. We are seeking a focused individual who is able to work independently, can take on instruction quickly and enjoys responsibility.
We work on a variety of projects so you will need to be adaptable, and comfortable switching between projects and different subject matters. You will need experience in User Manual writing, understand how to write using instructional language, have an eye for consistency, a basic understanding of design (manipulating images, structuring page layouts), an appreciation of tone and style, and a high level of English language skill.
We work predominantly using Madcap Flare and Word so experience with these tools are desirable. Experience using alternative tools and basic knowledge of HTML and CSS are of benefit.
To match current workloads this role is for 3-days per week, fully remote (must have right to work in UK). With a Fixed Term of 3-months which may be extended; workload and performance dependant. A Stevenage, Hertfordshire office location is available if required.
- You MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE of writing User Manuals such as User Guides, O&M Manuals, Installation Manuals and Building Manuals. In all or some of our core industries of building/construction, mechanical engineering and consumer products.
- You will assist with open projects, and complete projects of your own.
- You will respond to new client enquiries, and discuss their requirements in Teams or occasional face-to-face meetings, taking ownership for the project.
- You will support with the general workload of the Authoring team.
- You will be able to write using Madcap Flare or be open to learning this software (knowledge of HTML is useful). Training, if required, will consist of a Madcap Flare certified course, self-learning, sample projects and of course we will provide help where needed. Other technical authoring software may and can be used, however Flare is our go-to tool so the ability to use this software will be a must.
- Opportunity to write blogs and technical articles if desired.

Salary/ rate: £30,000 (prorated to £18,000 for 3-days a week)
